The History of the Millstream Fire Department

Early Picture of the Millstream Fire Department

Founded in 1980, the Millstream Fire Department was born out of necessity.

After a few house fires in the 1970s, including one fatality, the community of Millstream banded together and decided they needed to protect their families and property.

Over the next several years, the Millstream Fire Department grew to a fully functional fire station, with firetrucks, an SCBA, radios, and hydraulic rescue tools.

Currently mandated to do structural firefighting, auto extraction, wildland firefighting, medical first responders, off-road rescue, and low-angle rescue, the MFD works tirelessly to ensure their community is protected in even worse scenarios.

Millstream Firefighters: Fighting Fires, Saving Lives, and Bringing Laughs

Fighting fires is challenging and dangerous. And although it is a solemn calling, that doesn’t mean you can’t try to have fun while doing it.

The Millstream Fire Department takes pride in providing high-quality care to its community while keeping them entertained and laughing.

One way they do that is with their comical road signs.

Millstream Fire Department Uses Humour on the Road Signs-1

Posted throughout their social media, this Fire Station has used humour to attract attention.

In doing so, these Heros in Red remind their community of their active presence and educate them about the importance of properly placing civic numbers and checking their smoke detectors.

They use humour to make people stop and think, and in a modern world where there is so much noise everywhere, we appreciate their willingness to think outside the box to get their message across.

A Snap-Shot of Millstream Fire Department: The People & Equipment

Like any first responders who work tirelessly to keep their community safe, the Millstream Fire Department has much to be proud of.

Headed by Phillip Wood, they now have 30 active members, including a Chief, a Deputy Chief, three Captains, three Lieutenants, firefighters, support firefighters, junior firefighters, and five women firefighters.

The MFD meets every Monday to train, learn together, and check equipment. Their meeting room holds 60 people and is also used by fellow Fire Departments for their meetings. They are currently working to have it double as a warming/emergency shelter.

They have two engines, two tankers, one heavy rescue, one light rescue, one utility truck, one four-seat side-by-the-side with an enclosed trailer, one drone, 2 - 650 GPM pumps for loading the tankers, and several other pieces of equipment, including an Easy-Kleen Pressure Washer (Click here for more information!)

Easy-Kleen Firehouse Unit: The Perfect Addition to Your Fire Station

The Millstream Fire Department currently houses a 3.5 GPM @ 2400 PSI Firehouse and Car Detailing cold water pressure washer.

The Easy-Kleen Firehouse Unit is a stationary unit that is always ready to use. With a squeeze of the trigger gun, the Millstream firefighters are ready to decontaminate and clean. Plus, it’s easy to use and safe, so MFD saw it as the perfect addition to their fire station.

This unit has a 5 HP 220 Volt single-phase motor with a robust General Pump and heavy-duty auto stop/start.

Their unit has been well-used since they bought it six years ago, and we are thrilled to be a part of their story.

Late Night Fire Apparatus Cleaning with an Easy-Kleen Firehouse Unit

“We have had our Easy-Kleen Firehouse model of pressure washer since 2018. We use it approximately once to twice weekly, washing the apparatus (and equipment) after every call. We want to keep them clean from dust, dirt, and salt to increase their life span, and who doesn’t love a shiny fire truck? It’s quick to deploy with the reel and very easy to use. Our volunteer firefighter’s time is valuable, so we want a quick and easy system to get back home sooner from 3 AM calls. We also acquired the foam cannon, floor washer and undercarriage washer. They work great at helping keep the bays and our eight apparatuses clean – even on the bottom.”
